Welcome to the National Education and Training Survey

The National Education and Training Survey (NETS) is the voice of the healthcare workforce.  The results drive forward improvements in the clinical learning environment and underpin our work to eliminate inequalities in education and training.  The survey takes just 10 minutes to complete and your feedback is vital in ensuring that all learning environments are safe, inclusive and support healthcare professionals to work together to deliver the highest standards of care.

Every survey response, across every profession and location, counts and helps to improve the experience of the current and future workforce.  Your experience matters.  Please take the time to complete the NETS and make sure your voice is heard.

Have you been on a practice placement or training post in the last 12 months?
By practice placement or training post, we mean the healthcare setting, including work-based learning, in which you gain experience of caring for patients and service users

We want your honest views on the quality of education and training you’ve experienced so far; it’s why all individual responses to the survey are confidential. We also don't publish data where there are fewer than three learners in your placement, so responses can't be attributed to individuals. However, your answers will still contribute to the overall findings for your placement provider. Please note: If you choose to provide your email address to either save and continue the survey or to confirm completion of the NETS, we will not use or store your contact email address for any other reason other than for the purposes of the NETS.

The Care Act, 2014, outlines our responsibility for securing continuous improvement in the quality of education and training provided for the health and care workforce; and via this continuous improvement in the quality of the health service.
As a responsible organisation it is our duty to remind you of your rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA).  Information pertaining to the NETS survey is outlined below:
We have commissioned SmartSurvey to process the responses to the survey.  Further information on how SmartSurvey will use your data can be found in the SmartSurvey Privacy Policy.
The legal basis for processing of your data falls under Article 6(1)(e) of GDPR – Public Task.  The legal basis for processing special category data falls under 9(2)(a) of GDPR – Consent.  You do not have to disclose your demographic information to complete the survey, therefore we have given you the option to choose ‘do not wish to disclose’.  We ask for this information to identify any specific student groups who are not experiencing high quality clinical training placements. It will also help us to identify and act on any issues or concerns.

This survey respects the privacy of those taking part with individual responses kept confidential and stored securely. If a serious concern is identified in the survey, we will disclose personally identifiable information (name, programme title/placement location and email address) to education and placement providers to allow immediate action to be taken.
The data provided in the survey will be retained securely by NHS England and SmartSurvey in accordance with organisational Records Management policies.
