1. Introduction

NHS England Workforce, Training and Education (WT&E) is responsible for supporting high-quality education and training across the healthcare workforce. Through our Education Quality Framework and quality assurance processes, we work with healthcare organisations, education providers and system partners to promote excellent learning environments that enable learners, educators and teams to thrive.

Educators are fundamental to the delivery of safe, effective and compassionate care. They play a critical role in developing the skills, knowledge and professional behaviours of the current and future workforce, helping to ensure patients receive high-quality care both now and in the years ahead.

The Educator Voice Survey (EVS) has been developed as part of NHS England's commitment to strengthening and supporting the educator workforce. The survey seeks to better understand the experiences of educators across healthcare learning environments, including the opportunities, challenges and support available to them in their role.

The findings will help us build a national picture of the educator workforce, establish a baseline for measuring progress, and inform future improvements to educator development, recognition, support and workforce planning. Alongside the National Education and Training Survey (NETS), the EVS will provide valuable insights into education quality from both the educator and learner perspective, helping to drive continuous improvement across the healthcare system.

Your voice matters

By completing this survey, you will help shape future policy, investment and improvement activity to better support educators across health and care. Every response contributes to a stronger understanding of the educator workforce and helps ensure that educator experiences are reflected in decisions that affect education and training delivery.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences and perspectives.

For any queries about the survey, please contact the National Education Quality team at england.wte.quality@nhs.net

We want your honest views on the quality of education and training you’ve experienced so far; it’s why all individual responses to the survey are confidential. We also don't publish data where there are fewer than three learners in your placement, so responses can't be attributed to individuals. However, your answers will still contribute to the overall findings for your placement provider. Please note: If you choose to provide your email address to save and continue the survey, we will not use or store your contact email address for any other reason other than for the purposes of the EVS.

The Care Act, 2014, outlines our responsibility for securing continuous improvement in the quality of education and training provided for the health and care workforce; and via this continuous improvement in the quality of the health service.
As a responsible organisation it is our duty to remind you of your rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA).  Information pertaining to the EVS survey is outlined below:
We have commissioned SmartSurvey to process the responses to the survey.  Further information on how SmartSurvey will use your data can be found in the SmartSurvey Privacy Policy.
The legal basis for processing of your data falls under Article 6(1)(e) of GDPR – Public Task.  The legal basis for processing special category data falls under 9(2)(a) of GDPR – Consent.  You do not have to disclose your demographic information to complete the survey, therefore we have given you the option to choose ‘do not wish to disclose’.  We ask for this information to identify any specific student groups who are not experiencing high quality clinical training placements. It will also help us to identify and act on any issues or concerns.

This survey respects the privacy of those taking part with individual responses kept confidential and stored securely. If a serious concern is identified in the survey, we will disclose personally identifiable information (name, programme title/placement location and email address) to education and placement providers to allow immediate action to be taken.
The data provided in the survey will be retained securely by NHS England and SmartSurvey in accordance with organisational Records Management policies.
